From 1 July 2026, new Australian rules known as the Travel Rule, will apply to digital asset transfers. These changes are being introduced by AUSTRAC to make the crypto industry safer and more transparent.
The goal is simple: reduce money laundering, terrorism financing and other financial crime by ensuring the right information travels with digital asset transfers – just like it already does with regular bank transfers.
It requires digital asset platforms like CloudTechX to collect, verify, and share basic information about the sender and recipient for most transfers between regulated platforms.
Starting 1 July 2026, when you withdraw digital assets from CloudTechX, you’ll need to provide a few extra details about the recipient:
We’re building a secure Address Book feature that will let you save wallet addresses along with the required Travel Rule details.
Once it’s ready, you’ll only need to enter the information once for each saved address. We’re prioritising this and aim to have it available as soon as possible after 1 July.
When someone sends digital assets to your CloudTechX account from another regulated platform:
Once we’ve successfully verified a wallet address, future transfers from that same address should be much smoother.
In some situations, we may not be able to credit funds to your account until the required information is provided and verified. If the information can’t be obtained, we may need to return the assets to the sender in line with our legal obligations.
Nothing.
You don’t need to take any action today. We’ll let you know as soon as the new prompts and fields appear in the app/platform.
We’ll continue to send updates as we get closer to 1 July and as the Address Book feature becomes available.
