Important Update: Upcoming Changes to Digital Asset Transfers

From 1 July 2026, new Australian rules known as the Travel Rule, will apply to digital asset transfers. These changes are being introduced by AUSTRAC to make the crypto industry safer and more transparent.

The goal is simple: reduce money laundering, terrorism financing and other financial crime by ensuring the right information travels with digital asset transfers – just like it already does with regular bank transfers.

What is the Travel Rule?

It requires digital asset platforms like CloudTechX to collect, verify, and share basic information about the sender and recipient for most transfers between regulated platforms.

Changes to Digital Asset Withdrawals (Sending Digital Assets)

Starting 1 July 2026, when you withdraw digital assets from CloudTechX, you’ll need to provide a few extra details about the recipient:

  • Whether the recipient is an individual or a non-individual (e.g. company, trust, or other entity)
  • The recipient’s full legal name

What to Expect

  • Withdrawals to your own self-hosted (non-custodial) wallets can still proceed once you provide the above information.
  • Withdrawals to other exchanges or custodians may require us to exchange Travel Rule information with the receiving platform.
  • If the information can’t be properly verified, the transfer may be delayed, paused, or (in rare cases) rejected.
  • Transfers between regulated platforms may take a little longer than usual while everyone adjusts.

Good news! Address Book Coming Soon

We’re building a secure Address Book feature that will let you save wallet addresses along with the required Travel Rule details.

Once it’s ready, you’ll only need to enter the information once for each saved address. We’re prioritising this and aim to have it available as soon as possible after 1 July.

Changes to Digital Asset Deposits (Receiving Digital Assets)

When someone sends digital assets to your CloudTechX account from another regulated platform:

  • Most deposits with complete Travel Rule information will be credited as normal.
  • Deposits from self-hosted wallets or those missing information may need extra verification.
  • In some cases, we may contact you to confirm details about the sender or the reason for the transfer.

Once we’ve successfully verified a wallet address, future transfers from that same address should be much smoother.

Important Information

In some situations, we may not be able to credit funds to your account until the required information is provided and verified. If the information can’t be obtained, we may need to return the assets to the sender in line with our legal obligations.

What Do You Need to Do?

Nothing.

You don’t need to take any action today. We’ll let you know as soon as the new prompts and fields appear in the app/platform.

We’ll continue to send updates as we get closer to 1 July and as the Address Book feature becomes available.
